- Abstract
- For the past two centuries, our planet has been experiencing fundamental changes due to human actions. These changes are so serious that one of their repercussions is the entry into a new geological era, the Anthropocene. Prior to this concept, we used to speak of the Holocene, a geological epoch associated with the settlement of mankind and the establishment of agriculture. The concept 'Anthropocene' was first used in 2000 by Nobel Prizewinner Paul Crutzen. The areas in which it manifests itself are multiple, and it is currently a concept that gives rise to debate, both in the scientific field and in literary research. In 2011, the Spanish author Rosa Montero wrote a science fiction novel entitled Tears in the Rain. Throughout her novel, Montero questions this new concept through numerous themes that constitute what is currently known as the ecological crisis. From climate change to the extinction of species and environmental injustice, the novel captures various current problems in this dystopic novelistic future.
