- Abstract
- This paper is willing to explore the tie between income inequality and inter-generational income mobility. In assessing this relationship, the current literature on both topics has been explored, followed and empirically applied in the case of Germany. LIS database repeated cross-sectional survey has been exploited when calculating inequality measures, i.e. university-college premium, MLD and equality in opportunity indexes, and when applying a two-sample two stages least square estimation for the inter-generational mobility measures, i.e. IGE and rank coefficient. The results of this thesis would allow to depict the connection between the level of inequality, measured by the inequality in opportunity index, with the status of its transmission in Germany and to compare the found outcomes with the international literature.
