- Abstract
- Clinicians and sports practitioners agree that the mechanical and anatomical properties of the foot influence each other. The MyotonPRO was used to assess the mechanical properties of the soft tissues of the ankle, including muscles and tendons. The FPi-6 and NDT were used to assess the anatomical properties of the ankle, its hyperpronation. The aim of this study was to demonstrate a correlation between passive stiffness of the foot flexors and plantar fascia with ankle hyperpronation. Thirty healthy participants (male, n=13; female, n=17; total, n=30) were recruited. The results showed a significant negative correlation only between the FPI-6 test and gastrocnemius. For the NDT and FPI with the other structures assessed, no correlation could be found. If a correlation between mechanical and anatomical properties of the foot is to be demonstrated, assessing passive ankle stiffness with the FPI-6 or NDT is not a convincing solution.
