Abstract
The building sector has been slow in embracing innovation by keeping use of outdated practices. Circularity in the building sector is getting increasing concerns by organizations, but stand-alone projects cannot change the industry practices. There must be a collaboration between actors of the building supply chain. Thus, this thesis investigates the role of collaboration as an enabler of circular economy in the building sector. Figure 1 presents the research model. It was completed using two case studies. One about Madaster, an e-collaboration platform generating material passports. The second one was about a modular construction firm, which benefits by nature of the same advantage as traditional firms which collaborate. It was found that Madaster and Modular construction have an important role to play in fostering circularity in buildings and that using it combined with other collaboration tools such as used material marketplace could be even more efficient in enabling CE in the building sector.
