- Abstract
- Aqueous solvents have been recently proposed as substitutes to Amine-based solvents for CO2 absorption in membrane contactors. However, their absorption kinetics remain significantly slower. Carbonic anhydrase has been considered as biocatalyst to solve this issue. In this work, the physical entrapment of the enzyme in cross-linked polyimidazolium bis(trifluorosulfonyl)imide based ionic liquid films has been studied. Photo-induced polymerisation has proved to be compatible synthesis conditions of the polymer with the enzyme. However, significant leaching has been measured using this immobilisation technique. Uncertainties remain on the origin of the leaching but morphological studies suggest that the size of the enzyme and the structure of the polymer were not compatible. These two parameters need to be modified in the future.
