Abstract
The graphic novel is a medium that has developed over the last decades to address different themes, and more particularly serious subjects. Its combination of texts and drawings enabled the author to deal with different issues such as Holocaust trauma in a new manner. This thesis aims at analysing different aspects of the genre that permitted the author to express this trauma. This dissertation thus focuses on three criteria of analysis: the relation of the author to the event, the representation of the characters, and the depiction of violence and its related emotions. The analysis will therefore highlight some recurrent features and techniques employed by the authors in the novels.
