Abstract
The year of 2020 was the year of the greatest global pandemic crisis of our generation. The Coronavirus disease was first detected in China in the end of 2019 and was officially declared by the WHO as a public health emergency of international concern on January 30th, 2020 (WHO, 2020). Due to the population’s fear and the enormous number of hospital admissions of COVID-19 patients, the worldwide demand of personal protective equipment rocketed. As a result, the world experienced first critical shortage of personal protective equipment. This research aims at rethinking the sourcing strategies of Belgian hospitals for personal protective equipment. Firstly, we will carry out a literature review in order to go through all the major concepts, essential for the understanding of the project. Secondly, in an attempt to respond to our questions, we will undertake a qualitative inquiry, proceeding to a multiple case study made up of four cases. From that point on, based on our personal knowledge, documentation and findings from the multiple case study, we will discuss several potential propositions aiming at answering our research question.
