- Abstract
- Since the beginning of trade exchanges, some merchants have had difficulties managing their business and meeting their debts. In this study, we are looking at bankruptcies that have occurred in the judicial district of Namur in the “Belle Epoque”, who was a pivotal moment between the Second industrial Revolution and the First World War, between 1896 and 1914. We will focus more particularly on the implications and repercussions that these financial troubles will have on the person who’s going bankrupt and his family. The feelings and the social relations between the different stakeholders will be in the heart of this work. We’ll also study their evolution, from beginning to end of the bankruptcy procedures, till their possible rehabilitation.
