- Abstract
- Within the framework of a neoclassical realist perspective, this thesis investigates the transformation of Franco-Russian diplomatic relations in light of the annexation of Crimea in 2014. It delves into the alteration observed in France's foreign policy, initially characterized by condemnation and sanctions, which later evolved into a more nuanced approach that balanced strategic interests with pragmatic diplomacy. The analysis encompasses both systemic and domestic factors that influenced policy decisions, economic interactions, as well as the impact of official state visits and bilateral agreements on the shaping of post-2014 diplomatic dynamics. The study emphasizes France's strategic readjustment aimed at sustaining dialogue and economic ties with Russia, while simultaneously upholding international norms and European unity.
