Abstract: enThis thesis is a partial commented translation of “Het land van de onbestrafte misdaden – Waarom faalt justitie?” by Walter De Smedt, published in 2020. The thesis is divided into three sections. First, the introduction in Dutch focuses on the Dutroux case and the state of the dysfunctions that resulted from it, 25 years after the White March of 1996. A second objective of this introduction is to highlight the collocations used in the context of this matter. The second section is the actual translation of about fifty pages of Walter De Smedt’s book. Finally, a series of comments on the translation have been proposed which will justify some of the translation choices and demonstrate some of the difficulties encountered.
