- Abstract
- The crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic has shaken up a lot of industries. The automotive industry and its suppliers have not escaped it, with unprecedented production losses which amount to almost 5 million light weight commercial vehicles in 2020. AGC Glass Europe, a producer of glass material, partly intended to the automotive market, is one of the collateral victims of this crisis as a supplier of car glazing parts. Consequently, the company’s top management is now looking at the cash management very closely and pushes to reduce the inventory levels in the whole supply chain. This thesis presents a detailed study on the development of a raw glass inventory coverage calculation and on the reduction of this indicator within the Western European plants of AGC Automotive. Through the application of the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) process, all aspects related to the raw glass inventory will be investigated. Ultimately, findings will be presented highlighting the raw glass inventory coverage reduction along with a managerial reflection on the implementation as well as the expected payoffs.
