- Abstract
- The aim of this Masters dissertation is to underline the presence of the theme of denied identity in Daniela Catrileo's Mapuche poetry. More precisely, the objective is to prove that the identity is that of the Mapuche people and not of the author. To achieve this purpose, first, it is demonstrated how Catrileo manages to affirm her Mapuche identity, despite the wound that characterizes the latter. Then, the work focuses on the aspects of Mapuche identity that have been denied to this indigenous people. The aspects addressed include the impossibility of accessing ancestral territories, of growing up and living with the community of origin and of learning Mapudungun, the ancestral Mapuche language. The importance of these three elements in the development of Mapuche identity is also explicated. Finally, the trauma that has taken place both in the case of the poet's identity and in the case of the identity of the Mapuche people is analysed.
