- Abstract
- This thesis aims to analyse the relations between Catalonia and the European Union, while focusing on Catalan regionalism, its historical background and the EU’s institutional relations. It intends to illustrate how the EU is a venue and a burden for the region of Catalonia to develop in the international arena, as well as focusing on the theoretical framework that explains this kind of relationship being the Multilevel governance theory, developed mainly by Lisbeth Hooghe and Gary Marks, also by other relevant academics. Lastly, examining how Catalonia with other regions convened together in initiatives such as the Four Motors of Europe.
