- Abstract
- This thesis reviews some of the major economic theories linked to growth and the environment, and considers recent international policies over climate change/environmental matters such as the Kyoto Protocol or the Paris agreements. The effects of these measures are reviewed and studied. For all issues, the ability to measure pollution/emissions in a common and accepted manner is important for understanding and selecting policies. Accordingly, an in-depth explanation of the 2 most common measuring (national accounting) methods (consumption-based and production-based accounting) is provided. Finally, a detailed analysis of the figures arising from the usage of these two methods is made for two comparable countries: Belgium and Albania.
