Abstract
The aim of this paper is to explore innovations in pharmaceutical reverse logistics within the context of the circular economy (CE). The pharmaceutical industry is highly regulated due to its impact on the environment and public safety. By investigating 18 real public recycling and disposal cases from 10 prominent pharmaceutical companies, thematic analysis summarizes the concrete implementation processes of these programs. Combined with interviews with pharmaceutical supply chain (PSC) specialists, this qualitative research identifies drivers and barriers to success. The findings highlight innovative solutions, including technology such as big data and productspecific innovation, as well as non-technology approaches like stakeholder collaboration based on the stakeholder resource-based view (Stakeholder-RBV). This paper evaluates the real-life programs through both academic and practical evidence and provides potential solutions to promote sustainable development.
