- Abstract
- The purpose of this thesis is to study the efficiency of a financial penalty system on improving and maintaining supplier service levels in the retail sector. We will focus on the case of Delhaize Belgium. We began this dissertation by defining the contractual and legal framework by comparing the literature and Delhaize's practices. This definition then led to the setting up of assumptions. Next, we collected inbound order and penalty data directly from Delhaize. These data were then analyzed, enabling us to establish three different typologies of suppliers. On the basis of these analysis, we were able to identify various trends in supplier behavior and evolution of the service level with regard to the penalty system. Finally, we discussed the results. After drawing a general conclusion, we proposed some managerial recommendations and defined the limits of our research.
