- Abstract
- The purpose of this Master Thesis is twofold: first of all, to outline the ecocritical perspective’s evolution within South America’s literary work and criticism. By doing so, we aim at demonstrating the paramountcy of “ecocritics” in a world widely concerned about environmental issues. Secondly, this work delve into nature’s representations in both novels and investigate the extent to which these representations relate to the Andean culture’s issues within Peruvian society. Human beings and nature will be intertwined through an ecocritical analysis combining spatial, linguistic and characters-related considerations. Unlike the author Mario Vargas Llosa, we advocate for the creation of a modern utopia in both Arguedas and Colchado’s literary work. This thesis likes to suggest that nature’s depictions in literature could speak for many social issues highly relevant in modern Peru.
