Abstract
In this master thesis, a high dynamic range, low power, and high definition CMOS Image sensor is designed in a TSMC 0.18 µm technology for use in the domain of capsule endoscopy. An analysis of the state-of-the-art high dynamic range image sensors is conducted to select the best potential architecture. The resulting pixel is then iteratively designed by assessing its shortcomings before modifying it to mitigate them. The result is a logarithmic sensor with a definition of 1024x1024 pixels and a dynamic range of 120 dB. It has a power consumption of 2.08 mW at 100 000 lux but which goes down to 192 µW below 1000 lux and captures 2 frames per second.
