- As countries pursue decarbonisation strategies, green hydrogen is set to play a critical role in cutting greenhouse gas emissions in hard to abate sectors. However, the high production costs of green hydrogen remain a barrier to its widespread adoption. One of the largest cost components in green hydrogen production is the cost of renewable electricity that powers the electrolyser. Certain regions endowed with high solar and wind potential find themselves strategically positioned to achieve low renewable electricity costs. Identifying these locations is important for the development of green hydrogen production. This research develops an adaptable model to assess and compare production costs across different locations based on their wind and solar conditions.
