Abstract
This paper seeks to discover the intersectional discrimination that migrant women face in media representations. Drawing upon some key concepts including feminization of migration and intersectionality, central to understanding the intricate dynamics of oppression systems, the study meticulously examines the hurdles of migrant women within the socio-political landscape of the United Kingdom. In addition, the research entails an online press monitoring of migrant women’s portrayal in four British newspapers: The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, and The Daily Mirror during two distinct time periods: October 2022 to December 2022 marked by a series of events that fueled immigration discourse and March 2023, coinciding with the beginning of discussions on the Illegal Migration Bill. Employing a Critical Discourse Analysis, this thesis aims to uncover discriminatory media practices and the ways in which migrant women are portrayed. By interrogating and identifying the underlying biases and prejudices perpetuated through media representations, this study aims to contribute to the academic discourse on feminist media studies.
