- Abstract
- This thesis explores the emerging field of impact investing in Belgium, focusing on integrating financial returns with social and environmental benefits. Through interviews with key stakeholders in the Belgian investment community, the research assesses the current state and potential growth of impact investing, which currently represents 1% to 2.5% of total assets under management (AUM) and could potentially rise to 10% by 2030. The study identifies major obstacles such as unclear definitions and regulatory frameworks, and the need for better impact measurement methods. Proposed strategies to address these challenges include refining regulatory guidelines, enhancing fiscal incentives, and improving educational outreach to both investors and the public. The findings aim to deepen the understanding of impact investing and suggest ways Belgium can grow its share of investments that contribute to a better society.
