Abstract
Industry 4.0 is the concept that is currently revolutionizing all production companies. It entails the connectivity and digitalization of the production process and could usher in an era of mass customization. The connectivity and digitalization of the production process and could usher in an era of mass customization. Adidas recognized the opportunity and decided to launch their first Speedfactories in 2015 with the aim of providing customizable shoes. They first opened a Speedfactory in Germany, and then in the United States. However, in 2019, Adidas decided to close these 2 factories in order to relocate them to Asia. In this thesis, we will investigate the reasons behind the failure of the Speedfactories in Europe and the US.
