- Abstract
- This thesis delves into the multifaceted narrative of the 2003 Iraq war encompassing the theoretical framework of realism, neoconservatism and Just War theory. It navigates through George Bush’s decision to invade Iraq and its consequences and analyzes the clash and convergences of these frameworks through a political, ideological, and humanitarian perspective. Bush’s Iraq policy was thus driven by an intricate combination that led to a military intervention based on perceived security threats and a desire to spread American values across the Middle East and more specifically Iraq. Beyond that, this thesis highlights how Just War theory served as a back-up justification to moralize military intervention. It also revealed a hidden motive of imposing dominance and American imperialism across the region.
