- Abstract
- Ethnic and religious/sectarian struggle is one of the main reasons that undermined most Middle Eastern countries' social and political stability, which gained their independence at the beginning of the 20th century. There are many reasons why Ethno-religious/sectarian conflicts are very influential in the region. Ethnic and religious communities in these countries are not adequately addressed by political parties, non-governmental organizations, bureaucracy, and researchers. As a result of the oppressive policies of rulers, ethnic and religious minorities are marginalized within discriminatory approaches. Before digging into the matter of the Ethno-religious problem in Iraq and Syria, the reasons for the issue should be determined. Known as the cradle of civilizations, the Middle East geography has witnessed many ethnic and religious conflicts in the last century. Alongside political reasons, there are also historical and geographic reasons.
