Abstract
Although gait is a movement part of our everyday life, it is a complex phenomenon which can be perturbated by several types of disorders. Besides, the vertebral column has a non negligible impact on the kinematics of this movement, and a scoliotic patient will inevitably suffer from displacement alterations. This is the reason why gait analysis laboratories have emerged, and aim to study locomotor disorders in order to optimize therapeutic solutions. The purpose of the present work is to analyze the kinematics and dynamics of the vertebral column with the help of a multibody model combined with inertial motion sensors. Also called IMU –Inertial Measurement Units–, they are composed of accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers. Those sensors constitute a more practical alternative than the existing gait laboratories facilities. Their reliability in terms of precision as well as their limitations will be exposed throughout this report. Guiding lines for improvement will also be proposed regarding their use with a multibody model for gait analysis.
