Abstract
This work is a thesis linked to an end-of-studies internship in an IT and ERP software implementation company (Odoo) based in Jakarta, Indonesia: the company Port Cities Indonesia. In this thesis, we will ask how the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system can influence/have an impact – positively or negatively - significant or lesser – (on) the performance of a company (in this case, Port Cities & Nalios customers’ companies and the companies themselves), including its financial, economic profitability, organizational efficiency, social and human satisfaction. We will first discuss, in the literary review part, information systems (IS) with its context and origin but also define this concept and explain the components and its role within organizations. Thereafter, we will discuss what is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) but also why companies need to implement this system while looking at the decision-making process for companies and managers. Through this work, the notion of performance will be highlighted as it is important to understand how to define, measure and maximize it. This will be linked to the implementation of the ERP system with the users. The notion of performance is multidimensional. So, when we will discuss this notion, it will be conceptualized. Indeed, many definitions exist but in the context of this work, we will focus on the performance of companies. We will define the performance and efficiency to check whether the implementation of an ERP system has an impact on it. With the strengths and weaknesses of this implementation approach. We will need to start with the definition (described in the Odoo ERP framework) and then look at the impact of the ERP system through a critical analysis. Then, we will go through the two case studies (with Nalios & Port Cities companies) to provide concrete examples and to deliver conclusions on the impact of the ERP system on companies’ performance (on the financial, economic, social/human & organizational aspects).
