- Abstract
- Decarbonizing the liming sector is a real challenge. Differently to many other industries, emissions related to burning fuels and generating electricity only consist of a third of the emissions. The thermal treatment to transform limestone into lime, is the largest part of the generated emissions. These emissions are unavoidable but contribute majorly to the release of CO2 into the atmosphere. The liming company, Carmeuse, has three carbon removal offsets at hand to generate negative emissions and claim an offset. These could be sold on the voluntary carbon market or used to compensate the corporation’s own emissions.
