Abstract

enAfter providing a theoretical framework, this paper first discusses how and to which extent the different providers of development assistance and the different ways in which it is allocated have an impact on the populations that benefit from it, in terms of local ownership of projects, corruption, governance and poverty alleviation. It then makes recommendations on what initiatives should be put forward to make foreign aid more beneficial to its recipients and what avenues of research should be explored in the future to complement the analyses provided here. At the end, there is a summary of the most important elements of these analyses.
