Abstract
This master thesis aims to provide readers with a critical perspective on the known and unknown aspects of Industry 4.0 while focusing on its Environmental Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) effects in Europe. The study explores the diverse synergies and trade-offs associated with Industry 4.0 technologies in various industry sectors. By conducting thorough data collection and literature review, the research concludes that Industry 4.0 can be a valuable asset in supporting positive environmental outcomes in industries. However, it also highlights the need to carefully consider potential trade-offs that may arise. The thesis specifically examines the Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, and Manufacturing industries, comparing their experiences with Industry 4.0 adoption. The findings reveal that the Manufacturing sector stands out as the one benefitting the most from Industry 4.0 technologies, particularly in enhancing its Environmental CSR performance.
