- Abstract
- Since the 1990's , Africa has been the theatre of violent conflicts and the sub-saharan region has been the most affected . This research focusses on case studies from the Great Lakes Region for its strong regional dynamics and for having been for a long time the epicentre of conflicts in Africa, which has led to the redefining the scope of the Great Lakes Region. In the different mechanisms aiming at resolving the conflicts like peace negotiations , women are often missing in official delegations or representations . However , women have developped parallel initiatives through the mechanism of Track II diplomacy to influence and engender the peace processes in Africa. The case studies delt with in this research are BURUNDI, KENYA , DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO , UGANDA AND SOUTH SUDAN.
