- Abstract
- Felix Ever After is a novel that focuses on its protagonist, Felix, a 17-year-old Black queer trans boy who navigates love, identity and the relationships with the people around him all while receiving transphobic messages from an anonymous cyberbully. At a time when Black queer representation is still scarce, books like this offer us an insight into what it means to be a Black queer youth nowadays. The introduction of this work presents the book and its author before discussing the situation of trans rights in the USA and in Belgium in 2022 as well as pointing out the violence trans people face in their daily life. Thereafter, comments explain some of the choices that were made during the translation of the beginning of the book, based on personal reflection and literature from translation studies. Topics include, among other things, the translation of cultural elements, register, swear words and queer vocabulary.
