Abstract
Electricity transmission is the backbone of our entire electrical system and is currently undergoing massive changes. This document analyses regulations and data in order to find solutions to the investment needs and challenges for the development of so-called electric motorways and cross-border power lines in different European countries. The data provides a clear and solid context of the reasons and investment needs for network expansion. While an analysis of the regulations has shown that regulators are slowly turning towards mechanisms to increase the remuneration of projects that they consider to be of major necessity for network security and security of electricity supply.
