Abstract
In the context of language practice, emotions and concepts can be expressed through various ways, including the use of colours in expressions. Colours are therefore strongly tied to feelings, for example: a black day, a grey area. These examples are expressions that give us a specific message thanks to the use of colours. We understand therefore that day is not a happy event and area is also not very accurate. This corpus study aims at a cross-linguistic analysis into attributive colour construction from the perspective of Constructional Grammar. The different languages that are taken into a closer look will be Dutch, French and English. The colour construction will be analysed thanks to several attributes, namely the type of expressions and translations. The hypothesis that will be further established is the following: there is a strong link between Dutch and English. In order to test it, we used two corpora, namely the CHN and Sketch Engine.
