Abstract
This project attempts to analyse and investigate on how International Organizations (IOs) do function, and the various powers they possess. The main focus of this advanced master’s thesis is to profoundly examine how the compliance mechanisms and powers of control of the International Labour Organization (ILO) are effective on her Member States. In order to succeed, the work will delve into the institutional and constitutional functioning mechanisms and practices of the said Organization. The research project envisages to analyse and investigate on how instrumental and influential the International Labour Organization (ILO) operates, towards her Member States. In this regard, the constitutional, supervisory and governing instruments and mechanisms of the Organization will be comparatively analysed and put to legal light. Such an investigation will be in view of critically identifying any juridical loopholes and weaknesses as with regards the Organization’s institutional and compliance practices towards her Member States. As a result, some pertinent and relevant scientific legal proposals would be made in the interests of legal scholarship, the Organization and her stakeholders. The proposals will aim at making a new contribution to the existing legal literature and international institutional practices of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The reasonableness of this work will be to maintain and promote peace, social justice, democracy, human rights, equity, development and the rule of law within the realm of the international labour market. In light of the legal scholarship of this project, a new era could embrace the effectiveness of the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) rules of compliance on her Member States. This will eventually lead the Organization towards a more transparent, democratic and productive public international entity, governed by democratic principles and the rule of law. The scholarly proposals could be put forward to the International Labour Organization (ILO) and her Member States, for approval, ratification and application.
