Abstract
Acyl-CoA dehydrogenases play a central role in beta-oxidation of fatty acids. The human genome contains 11 different genes coding for these enzymes, but only the function of 8 of them is known. Epidemiological data indicate that ACAD10 might be linked to diabetes, obesity and hypertension. Consistent with this, knockout mice have been reported to develop obesity and an impaired glucose tolerance. During my Master's thesis I used a combination of techniques from protein biochemistry, enzymology and mass spectrometry to glean first insights into potential functions of ACAD10.
