Abstract
This paper looks at environmental responsibility in the textile industry. To do this, it first asks the question of responsibility in order to determine how it is shared. Is it the responsibility of individuals alone? Or, conversely, is it the responsibility of the regulations? Or do both have a role to play in this responsibility? Secondly, this dissertation looks at a shared responsibility between individuals and regulations and seeks to strike a balance. It then presents a form of balance known as environmental labelling, with its advantages, disadvantages and ethical and philosophical difficulties. Finally, it looks at the particular method of life cycle analysis and the philosophical difficulties that this method can present.
