- Abstract
- Nowadays, railway transport is becoming more and more popular. The growing demand requires increased reliability, safety and longevity of the equipment. To this end and for the purpose of continuous improvement, the Belgian National Railways Company makes every effort to prevent and correct defects on its machines. The present work aims at providing new insights into the understanding of a fatigue problem that creates wheel cracks on the type 13 locomotives. The investigation path is a vibration problem of the transmission whose flexibility is guaranteed by elastomers. In this context, a multi-body model of the bogie and its transmission has been implemented using the Robotran software. The modeling of the wheel-rail contact being a complex matter, a review of the literature on this subject and model comparisons are presented. The multi-body model and the underlying assumptions are detailed. The application consists of two parts : a modal analysis of the system in static and an examination of the dynamic response of the system. The studies carried out mainly focus on the influence of the pulsating nature of the motor torque and on the stiffness and damping parameters of the transmission components. Finally, for some selected conditions, the subsurface contact stresses in the wheel are investigated.
