- Abstract
- This thesis attempts to establish the role of Titus Livius in the teaching of Latin in secondary school classes in French-speaking Belgium. First, the state of the matter is presented. It is noted that Titus Livius has been present in the lists of authors since the appearance of the official recommendations. From a chronological point of view, he is also relatively present in the various didactic works available to Latin teachers. An electronic questionnaire survey was conducted in secondary schools in French-speaking Belgium. The goal was to compare the evolution of Titus Livius’s way of teaching as described in the scientific literature to the current practice in the field. The investigation revealed that nowadays Titus Livius is not so unanimously accepted by secondary school teachers. In a second step, it was therefore necessary to offer ways of revitalising the latter’s teaching method. To this end, a catalogue was drawn up to serve as a bank of reasoned texts from Titus Livius' Ab Urbe Condita. It is intended to be both a resource of ready-to-use texts and a source of inspiration for Latin teachers.
