- Abstract
- The year 2016 commemorated the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. For this occasion, the Hogarth publishing house has decided to launch a series of novels adapted from his plays. In this context, the Canadian author Margaret Atwood adapted The Tempest's plot. This play by the famous playwright combines magic, romance and betrayal. Hag-Seed is therefore a modern rewrite of this play. Both works are characterized by the presence of an enigmatic main character. This dissertation analyses and compares these two emblematic figures through the themes of the duality of the human soul, the representation of dramatic art and illusion as well as the search for identity through a process of identification.
