Abstract
The digital transition and the green transition are two currently important transitions that must be taken into account by companies today if they are to remain competitive and not lag behind in these decisive evolutions. It is also important to note that these two transitions are linked by the concept of twin transition. This new concept highlights the synergies that can exist between the two transitions, and the various advantages and disadvantages this can bring. In this research thesis, we will attempt to provide some answers to the following question: The perceptions of twin transition (green and digital) by SME managers: a case study perspective. This dissertation focuses on SMEs, so we need to take into account their size, the various advantages and disadvantages an SME can have, as for example the limited resources and financial capacity which may make it difficult to achieve a twin transition. We conduct an inductive qualitative approach and worked with the case study method. We conducted semi-directive interviews with four SMEs involved in a digitalization project, as well as with a consultant who have worked with the four SMEs on their digitalization projects. This enabled us to explore the subject in greater depth and gather testimonials on the various concepts studied. Results show that the twin transition is not yet anchored in the minds and strategies of SMEs. The digital transition is already well established, but sustainability is almost non-existent for the time being. However, managers are often aware that digital and green can help each other. The twin transition can offer SMEs opportunities in terms of efficiency and improved productivity, but to achieve this transition, SMEs must also take into account the challenges (resources, finances, etc.) they will face. In addition, they have to face the resistance to change shown by the various stakeholders.
