Abstract
We conducted a correspondence test in the Walloon labor market to test if a Flemish job candidate compared to his Walloon counterpart is discriminated because of his belonging to Flanders. We focussed especially on the relation between the candidate’s culture and labor market discrimination. Our results show that the Flemish candidate is not discriminated compared to the Walloon candidate and that he is even preferred upon the Walloon candidate. We don't find evidence that culture is an explanatory variable of our results on discrimiantion but we do find that the discrimination of the Walloon applicant is possibly due to negative effects of the Walloon’s place of residence and social background on the employer's perception.
