- Abstract
- In this thesis, we tried to critically analyze the Environmental Kuznets Curve bij doing a literary study. The research question that was handled in this paper was: “Is the Environmental Kuznets Curve useful to discuss economic growth in relation to pollution and is it the appropriate tool to use for policy making? The overall purpose of our thesis was to critically analyse the EKC and especially its validity to show that the EKC is not a correct tool to base policies on. We started by discussing both factors of the curve: environmental quality and economic growth. Then we looked at different aspects of the curve that could be critiqued and we tried to propose some solutions for these problems. Our work contributed to the existing literature because it sheds light on the usefulness and existence of the EKC and its inverted-u shape relationship.
