Abstract
This master's thesis proposes an urban canopy as a structural solution to mitigate the heat island effect in cities. The thesis utilizes digital tools and multi-objective optimization by using a genetic algorithms called NSGA-II to model and optimize the canopy. These tools are Rhinoceros3D, Grasshopper, Karamba3D, Ladybug, and Wallacei. The thesis includes a review of urban canopies and multi-objective optimization, describes the modeling and optimization tools, and presents three optimization analysis. These analysis are a structural analysis with canopies of various dimensions, a shade analysis studying the effect of the population parameters of the multi-objective optimization, and a shade analysis for canopies of various dimension. This permits us to analyse various effect on our model to find the best solutions of canopies.
