Abstract
enThis thesis is a commented translation of two texts written by J.R.R. Tolkien in the first half of the twentieth century. The original texts can be found in the book called The Story of Kullervo by J.R.R. Tolkien, edited by Verlyn Flieger and published by HarperCollinsPublishers in 2015. The first text is an adaptation of the story of Kullervo, a young boy whose tragic fate is told in The Kalevala, a collection of ballads and poems that came out in Finland in the 1830s and that is considered by some to be the national Finnish epic. The second text is a kind of essay about The Kalevala and the Finnish culture. In this essay, Tolkien lets the reader discover some of the marvellous stories told in this piece of work that is quite unknown in our western countries.
