- Abstract
- This thesis analyses the realisation of (dis-)prefered speech acts in a corpus made of three theatrical improvisation shows recorded in Brussels, Belgium and of which a set of extracts were annotated by seasoned improvisers. Firstly, this exploratory research attempts to characterise links within the principles, values and teachings of improv and the principles of conversation, commenting in passing on the notion of refusal in improv shows. Then, the corpus of improvisations, captured and transcribed for the thesis, is presented. Finally, significative extracts from our corpus are transcribed and analysed with the tools of conversational analysis to establish whether there are any modifications to the rules of preference in the context of an improvisation performance.
