Abstract
For centuries the woman’s position in religion was determined by her ritual purity. Time passed and blood discharges from female’s body do not seem to be a dangerous mystery any more. However, we can observe that ritual impurity still influences directly the woman’s position in the Russian Orthodox Church. In this thesis we analyze the impact of ritual impurity on the status of a woman in the Roman Catholic Church in its history and in the Russian Orthodox Church today. We also analyze the original meaning of the ritual impurity in the Judaic tradition and examine the influence of the Leviticus prescriptions on the Christian traditions. The final object of this thesis is to define how the blood discharges affect the position of the woman in the Christian tradition today.
