Abstract
The National Football League is considered as one of the most competitive sport competitions. In order to reach that level, the league put in place a business model based on socialism. Socialism is hardly sustainable in a country advocating economic liberalism. Therefore, we studied the economic development of the league, the reactions of the teams' owners to the league's business model and the interactions between those owners. We also look at the economic interactions between the owners and the players. Finally, we analysed the consequences of those interactions on the league's competitive balance. Although the league is still economically strong, we observed an impact of those interactions on the competitive balance. Consequently, based on a strong competitive balance, the league's economic future is at risk.
