- Abstract
- The recent COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the entire world without exception. Pharmaceutical companies, the mainstays of this crisis and of the vaccine race, have of course been no exception. Their supply chains have been put to the test and have had to adapt to this crisis. In this thesis, we focus specifically on the impact of the pandemic on pharmaceutical companies inventory management and distribution. To do so, we use all available literature and data on the subject before comparing them with their equivalents at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The quantitative and qualitative impacts of the pandemic are analyzed, and we attempt to determine the main consequences of the pandemic for pharmaceutical companies. Our observations lead to the conclusion that COVID-19 and the scientific advances arising from the vaccine race will optimize inventory management and agility, but also that the future of pharmaceutical distribution lies in the development of shipping and regional distribution centers around the world.
