Abstract
The Kavango-Zambezi transfrontier conservation area is a biodiversity conservation and rural development initiative of the countries Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe which was established in 2011 as a transfrontier conservation area and tourism destination along the Zambezi river and Okavango basin. This thesis provides some basic understanding of the livelihood strategies of households in the KAZA TFCA using data from the Livelihood Baseline Survey which was conducted in December 2013 and January 2014. The identification of the livelihood strategies is reached by a descriptive analysis and a cluster analysis. The quantification is performed by a bivariate probit model which is employed to estimate the simultaneous adoption of diversification and tourism activities. In the end some recommendations are provided.
