- Abstract
- This research focuses on the study of Belgian and French women involved in the resistance and sentenced to deportation in the German penitentiary of Siegburg. Our study develops, according to five themes, the prison experience of these women through the analysis of their own testimonies written in the reports of the "Commission des Archives des Services patriotiques", the publication of their memoirs/autobiographies and family archives. We then establish a construction of the prison experience by bringing together the different points of view and making an identification as complete as possible of the women prisoners in Siegburg. This sheds light on the prison system set up by the German authorities and the perception of the women political prisoners, the prison environment and living conditions and their impact on the prisoners' mental and physical health, their release, their return to their homeland, their reintegration into society, and society's memory of them.
